Storia Design Moroso, divano Newton, Massimo Iosa Ghini, sistema componibile, 1989

Newtone completes a virtual circle that started with Dinamic. While design had initially in 1986 been perceived as a means of breaking with tradition, from 1989 onwards it was a value instilled in all Moroso products.
The idea in this case was to combine design with a classic sense of style.   Hence Massimo Iosa Ghini’s pen created Newtone. It was designed as a modular system, the reason why architects were provided with the Newtometer, which enabled the arrangement possibilities of the individual elements to be visualized rapidly in 1:50 scale.

A number of special projects were developed alongside the basic collections. 1993 was the year of Gluon. Marc Newson accepted the invitation to create a family of seats based on an engineering project, which comprised a section that could create infinite combinations. It changed considerably during production, and starred in several films, including The Truman Show.

TV Chair was developed in 1993. This chair emerged from Marc Newson’s exquisitely personal style, which was extremely innovative in terms of design and was not affected by time, indeed, it created a trend. It is made of polyurethane foam over an internal steel structure.

Ron Arad and Javier Mariscal came up with the idea of creating a four-handed collection though things turned out differently and comics proved to be more feasible than had been expected. What remain are beautiful designs and many photos testifying that the Los Muebles Amorosos adventure was a great period for Moroso. Ron Arad designed the bases onto which the pieces by Mariscal were grafted as backrests. Mariscal had envisioned “grandma” sofas. Alessandra, Eulalia Perez, Ettorina, Saula Marina are still being manufactured, and have been since 1995. Sof-Sof was released from the catalogue.

Below, the original drawings of Los Muebles series, drawn by Mariscal and a number of details from the collection.
