Soft Heart was created in 1990, the first in a series of twelve upholstered pieces named the Spring Collection. Tempered steel characterizes this group of products, featuring cold-moulded foam onto wooden or metal frames. Some of these derived directly from the metal sculptures by Ron Arad, others were designed specifically for Moroso.
Below, one of the covers of Casa Vogue from 1990 dedicated to Soft Heart.
Moroso was the first manufacturer to widely use cloth fabric for its upholstery. For Patrizia Moroso – who has always had a special relationship with and interest in fabrics – working with bold shapes often ruled out the use of a structured textile such as canvas. Cloth fabric is the only material capable of rendering the fluidity of a pure, extremely precious yet abstract colour.
To the right Patrizia Moroso and Ron Arad inscribed in an outline of Soft Heart, designer Ron Arad.
For the Spring Collection a high quality catalogue was published in 1500 numbered copies, developed by Artemio Croatto. A parallel in terms of culture with photographs by Karl Blosfeldt depicts chairs and small armchairs in the natural world of plants germinating and springtime. The images were by Tom Vack.
Below, photos taken from the catalogue.
The dramatic Victoria and Albert sofa was designed by Ron Arad and manufactured in the year 2000. The frame is made of polyester resin reinforced with a steel support, upholstered in non-deformable polyurethane foam. The Little Albert small armchair was also revisited in rotational-moulded resin.
