The design of Friuli Venezia Giulia "shows off" on web.

23 September 2019

The excellences of design from our region are shown and exposed by the Museum of Design of Friuli Venezia Giulia (MuDeFri).

Design in Friuli Venezia Giulia has found a place to recount its story in order to introduce its productive excellences and highly valued main characters.

This place is called MuDeFri, or rather, Museum of Design of Friuli Venezia Giulia and it is based on web, where it offers virtual exhibitions dedicated to the culture of design. Anna Aurora Lombardi, who collaborated with Alessandro Mendini for many years, is now a professor of design history and had this idea, believing strongly in this ambitious project. In 2016 she started a crowdfunding to which also some well-known local furniture companies have taken part. This crowdfunding made possible the launch of the website, www.mudefri.it,  with its first virtual exhibitions surfable from room to room with a simple click through a real expositive path. A new operating mode that exploits the potentiality of web to broadcast highly scientific contents, offering additional chances to in-depth investigation and interaction. The website alternates images, texts and link, in order to create short digressions to which the guest can adjust according to his curiosity and availability of time. In addition to the exhibitions, there are also a section renamed “percorsi” (paths), in which the different products collected are gathered in chronological, thematic or alphabetical order, and the blog with news and insight on the world of design.

Between the seven exhibitions produced so far, “Female designers in FVG” and “Wood, passion and design” stand out. The first one has as its starting point the exhibition “Women in Italian design”, promoted in 2016 by the Triennale of Milan. The exhibition renamed “Mario Pasquinelli”, that recall the career of the Tuscan designer who was one of the most prolific in the Friulan district of chair, was curated by Umberto Rovelli, the director of the Museum of Design of Tuscany (MuDeTo). This museum shares its aims and perspectives with the MuDeFri.

During its three years of activity, the MuDeFri grew up and established itself also thanks to the conception and set-up of the Udine Design Week in 2017, an event aimed towards a bigger appreciation of the industrial design activities of Friuli Venezia Giulia. In March, the center of Udine hosts for a week meetings, set-ups, and parties that put companies, designers and design enthusiasts in close contact. The rigor in research, the deep knowledge of the sector and the flexibility of the digital medium, has quickly made the MuDeFri a respected reality in the divulgation of the culture of this project.
