CICLOIDE
Beech wood chair (natural or lacquered) perforated seat made of glulam, back made of polyurethane
Manufactured by Calligaris
1988
In the 80s Pasquinelli decoded the postmodern lecture in his own way. Cicloide represents an amused essay about its innate ability to "usefully play" with geometry, without drawing formal consequences in an unoriginal way. Fully respecting ergonomics, of course, it is the true keystone on which Pasquinelli's whole design parabola is based.
Technical sheet of the chair Cicloide with dimensions and some technical details including: the fastening system for the wooden seat and the polyurethane backrest, with its metal brackets, the diameter of the legs and their rake angle. The sheet was compiled by Dario Del Pin, artist and designer based in Friuli, at the time employed at Calligaris’s technical office.
Strength test on Cicloide chair, excellently passed. It is highlighted the detail of the joint between back legs and seat.
The backrest is designed on the shape of a Cycloid: it is the curve traced by a point on the rim of a circular wheel as the wheel rolls along a straight line without slippage.
